Choosing a
contractor
A new roof system is a large investment, you want to make
sure you are making the right choices and using the right
contractor. When choosing a contractor, there are a number
of questions that need to be answered. Here are the top 10
questions you should ask when choosing a contractor.
1. Is the contractor licensed?
| |
a. |
To
find out, visit the Florida Dept. of Business and
Professional Regulation
www.myfloridalicense.com. Our license number is
CCC1326453. |
2. Does the contractor have liability and worker’s
compensation insurance?
| |
a. |
The contractor can provide you with a Certificate of
Insurance for their insurance company upon request.
Never assume they have insurance, if one of their
installers is injured on your property, you may be
liable. |
|
3. |
Find out of the contractor is going to hire a
subcontractor to perform the work. If so, their
license and insurance need to be verified.

At
Ideal Roofing Systems, we never use an outside
contractor. We take pride in our work, so we make
sure it is done right the first time. |
4. Does the contractor provide professional references and
have a positive reputation?
| |
a.
|
A
good contractor will provide references without
hesitation. However, many will only give the most
recent references. Ask about jobs that have been
completed more than 5 years ago. This will tell you
whether or not the contractor has a good reputation
and will also let you know if their roof system can
stand the test of time. You can also contact the
Better
Business Bureau. |
5. During the estimation process, does the contractor
thoroughly inspect your roof?
| |
a. |
At
Ideal Roofing Systems, we inspect both the outside
and inside of your roof system. We want to identify
any leaking or failing in your current roof system.
We check the inside of the home to protect your
property while we are installing or repairing your
roof. Depending on the situation, we may recommend
that you cover your furniture and remove pictures
and artwork from walls, or entirely empty a room. |
|
6. |
Does the contractor explain tearing off your current
roof system versus installing your new system over
your old system? |
| |
a. |
All of
our re-roof and repair interviews include an
explanation of all phases of the re-roofing process. |
7. Does the
contractor give a written estimate?
| |
a. |
The estimate should include a detailed explanation of the
work to be done, permit information and warranty
information. Ideal Roofing Systems provides all potential
customers with a booklet explaining our estimate, as well as
information about our company and the work we are so proud
of. |
|
8. |
Is the contractor a member of any national, state or
local associations? Membership in a contractor association
is a testament to the contractor’s devotion to quality and
professionalism. |
9. Does the contractor provide a good workmanship warranty?
| |
a. |
Ideal Roofing Systems warranties our workmanship for 3
years. |
10. Does the contractor provide warranty information about
the products they use in your roof system?
| |
a. |
All warranty information regarding building materials are
available upon request. |
